Just what I was looking for
I have a Toshiba satellite laptop (15" screen) and I was afraid it would be too big for the sleeve in this backpack.But it fit perfectly and it still feels light even with my laptop in it. Law School Student
I've found the Messenger Bag to be well suited for the trials of Law School as it has 1450 Cubic Inches of space, a lot more than that Banana Republic bag and much more durable than the American Eagle or the Abercrombie bags i've owned. May not be the most fashionable bag ever but certainly is more functional and much much more durable.

Although I wouldn't suggest it for high school age kids. It does tend to put a lot more stress on the back than a backpack and sincehigh school age kids have to carry more books at once I would recommend a backpack for them (Jansport of course).

For years I've been buying JanSport bags for school and to use on trips. This bag I just got to help me through my Sophmore year of High School. A great bag
I had a messenger bag for my commute into Boston each day, but at the end of the day it felt like someone was pulling my arm off.I wanted a sling bag for comfort and to free up both my arms.The price of this bag was right, and I was not disappointed.It has held up well for my commute and still looks good.

fun little bag but not very practical ...
Its a great little bag and exactly what they say it is.However, i found that this is not very practical for anyone in the working world.Its very soft bag and any papers or folders are crumpled in seconds.It doesn't stand up on its own.In fact it starts looking like a napsack when you set it down.Kind of a deflated balloon, dead jellyfish type appearance.Pens and things stick out at awkward angles and protrude weirdly at times.The cell phone holder is hard to access.
It would be great to pack some cd's, yer i-pod, maybe some granola bars and sling over your shoulder to go see a festival rock concert but to use every day....nope.

I have been looking for a backpack sence the middle of july, and I finally found a perfect backpack.

Poor quality
I ordered this because I was hoping to find a good corduroy messenger bag with a nice long strap (being as I am a tall person). Well, the strap is nice and long, but the bag quality itself is very poor. Not at all like the picture, very flimsy with cheap velcro underneath the front flap.

I am pretty disappointed with this, and am returning it promptly.

Dickies bag is a bit simple but classic.
Love the bag,classic dickies quality. Fits my needs, arrived on time.

Many years of good service
I've had this backpack for 7 years, and it's been my main bag for 6 of them.I selected this pack after perusing and comparing every feature of every backpack that Jansport sold at the time.While the bag has been excellent, it has begun to wear out.The shoulder straps are beginning to tear apart where they join the backpack at the top.Additionally, the membrane between the two main compartments is opening up near the top.After I got this pack, I noticed that Jansport came out with other packs that had significantly better grip on the shoulder straps, so that the pack didn't slide.That would be the only thing I would add to this pack.If you want to fix a damaged pack, I suggest that you just buy a new one; I sent mine in and got a bill for nearly half the cost of a new one, and it's starting to tear near the same place after only a few months.I'm getting a new pack in the next month, and it's either going to be this one or something very close to it.

Terrific Backpack/School bag!
I purchased this bag because I junked my car, sell online, and need to lose a hundred pounds---I walk to a USPS mail carrier box, about a 2-mile hike. Anyway, I used this JanSport Big Student Pack to carry packaged purchases and also to secure my buys from the local stores. One store had a sale on Coke/2 12packs for five dollars, great deal for here. I was able to fit both 12-pack cans, in the large compartment of this backpack, and then I hiked home--some 2 1/2 miles--without the pack straps falling apart or without myself suffering heart failure. I don't recommend this event for anyone. But it does demonstrate the heartiness of this JanSport pack: well made, has many zipper compartments, and its cushioned straps rest comfortably on your shoulders for normal weight loads. Wish my luck, as I do you!

An excellent school bag
You want your back pack to be durable and ergonomic, as well as a good value. This school bag is a great choice then. It's made of excellent materials and has many compartments. I've been using this one for a while now and I find it to be a very good type. Jansport is a reliable brand. With all of the different nooks and crannies in this bag you can fill it up with a lot of stuff. There's two large compartments, and three smaller ones. You can organize your materials very well with this school bag.

This is an excellent choice for a back pack. The money you invest in it will be well spent because it has a long life and comes with a guarantee just in case.

Big, Comfortable, Strong, and Long Lasting
I've had this backpack for over 5 years now, and it has held up to every abuse I've put it through.I've carried over 70 lbs in it at one time (not something I'd recommend) and it held up under the weight.It can hold at least four large textbooks, two three-subject spirals, umpteen pens and pencils, a TI83 calculator, wallet, cell phone, and anything else you might need all at once.

The pockets are great for organizing things, especially pens and pencils, and important things like keys and wallets.The padded back and straps keep you comfortable, and it has adjustable straps, like many other bags, which have allowed me to keep it through several growth spurts.I'm still using the one I have now, and I'm only thinking of getting a new one because I've beaten up on mine so much.

I'd recommend this bag for anyone 12 or older; younger kids should probably stay with a smaller bag.After that, however, this bag is perfect for middle and high school, and makes a great college bag as well.I'm so glad they are still producing this backpack.I'd never want a different one.

I love this pack!
As a college student this year, I needed a pack that wouldn't let me down. My old one was already getting kind of worn and I needed one that would last me through all four years. Alas, the Big Student is exactly that kind of pack. It is big, rugged, and well organized with lots of pockets and compartments to hold all of your stuff.

The pack is divided into two main compartments. The bigger one is very roomy and that's where I keep all of my binders and my textbooks, while the smaller one is where I keep my spiral notebooks, organizers, and datebooks. There is also a compartment sewn onto the smaller compartment and is where I keep my tissues and other knick knacks.

The two smaller pockets on the front are wonderful! I don't know where I would be without them! The smaller one has lots of small pockets on the inside, where I can store all of my pens, pencils, and other supplies. There's even a cell phone pocket and a keyper, a key loop, for all of your keys so that you don't lose them. The smaller front accessory cargo pocket is divided into two sections and that's where I keep my wallet and other valuable stuff.

The shoulder straps are very well padded and can adjust to any height. I think that they work great when you are carrying one of those heavy loads. The back is also padded so that you don't get poked in the back by any bulky textbooks.

Plus, the YKK zippers work very well and the seams have not even begun to split.

Because this pack can hold a lot of stuff, it can sometimes make me look like a nerd, but that's okay. I really don't mind that because I get everything organized and because th pack is very comfortable when you carry it.

Not only is this pack big, rugged, and holds a lot but it also comes with a lifetime warranty from JanSport which says that if you find anything wrong with your Big Student, you can send it back to them and they will send you a new. Just make sure that you keep the slip that comes with the box.

I don't know where I would be without this pack. It's got lots of room, keeps all of your stuff organized so you can find it when you need it, and it holds up well in all kinds of weather because the flaps over the zippers act as rain guards and protect your stuff from getting wet.

Great bag, well made and reasonable price!!
It's a great bag, it's comfortable to carry on the shoulder or hand, looks great full or with few stuff. The orange color makes easy to find stuff. The shoulder strap is wide and comfortable. It has great organizational features. It has lots of room with very well placed pockets, great to travel. I also use it to weekly activities (gym, work). It's very easy to wear (looks cool with everything), well made, great security features, and reasonable price.

Review from a portable pack rat...
Normally I do not write reviews for what I buy on Amazon but I like this bag so much I thought I'd sit down and give it a proper review.

First off, I am a full time art student who also works full time in the finance industry as a call center customer service specialist. So, putting that out there, I am never home. Due to this very fact I searched both on and off the web for a bag that would be comfortable and funky looking to carry around all day, that could hold most of the gear that I need on a day to day basis, and that would not break my budget. Luckily I found this great bag.

When I first got the bag it seemed smaller than I had originally anticipated but it fits mostly everything that I need to carry on a day to day basis comfortably. Just to give you an idea of the size and capacity I'll explain the bag's properties and just what everything holds in detail.

First, there is a slim pocket on the pull over flap of the bag. Its a great little space for quickly shoving envelopes. Especially for those of us who simply need a place to stuff their mail so they can read it later when there's time. On both side of the bags are mesh pockets for water bottles. They can expand to hold both small and large water bottles but I will tell you that the larger the water bottle is the more room may be taken up from the inner compartments. This coming from someone who carries around a 1.5 liter bottle of water all the time.

The front flap is held down by two clips that are very secure and the shoulder strap is wide and comfortable. The one handle on the bag is slightly off center. This angles the bag when your holding it by the handle so that its easier to shove stuff into it one handed. But also because of this nifty little feature I wouldn't recommend the bag for those who like to carry stuff by hand. I don't think the off center handle was put on the bag for that reason and carrying it by the handle is akward.

Now you can pick from a whole bunch of colors for the exterior, I have the black (looks great with everything) and my best friend recently got the ice blue (which is beautiful), but all the interiors seem to be the same color which is a loud vibrant orange. Not only is the orange a nice little artistic contrast with any outer color you choose but it also makes things ten times easier to find, especially if your digging through it at night.

Talking about the interior, there are three main compartments. On the front of the interior of the bag there's this cool little pocket that opens from both sides by zippers. What's interesting about this is that it is easily accesible when you have the flap clipped down. That makes it the perfect place to stash any little things you might need to pull out in a hurry, like a cell phone, a couple greenbacks, or an MTA card.

The first compartment has places to put all the small things you need. There's a little place for your basic combo of pen and highlighter. Open pouches perfect for a palm pilot and program disks. There's a little mesh pocket that zippers which is great for holding a wallet or, in my case, any cards you might need but you don't use all the time like your license or school id or credit cards. As with most messenger bags there's a a key clip that is VERY secure. Trust me! I've had problems trying to get my keys off when I'm really tired and not into concentrating. Plus, I also find myself storing my head set for work in the front pouch along with my cd player.

The two other compartments are unstructured and hold a ton of stuff. You know, for the rest of the everyday junk. In my case they hold, on a day to day basis, the current book that I'm reading (right now, a 1000 page hardcover novel), a 10 x 13 hardcover sketchbook, an 8 x 11 hardcover journal, a slim hard pencil case, a 12 x 10 16 pocket expanding accordian file, a large overstuffed 3 ring binder (for work), a slightly smaller 3 ring binder (for school) and one of those rectangular cd cases that hold about 90 cd's. All of this insanity is kept tightly contained with a strap that clicks over both compartments so that the bag doesn't gape and everything is kept secure.

Even with all of that the bag is designed to be a little floppy so that it can somewhat conform to your body. Great for trying to get on and off buses or squeeze in and out of cramped to the max subway cars. But also because of the loose feel of the bag it does slouch when you put it on the floor but by the end of the day when I'm finally home I could honestly care less if it stand up perfectly stright when I put it on the floor.

All in all it is a great bag for hauling around a lot of stuff stylishly and comfortably. I recommend it for all pack rats who are constantly on the go and need to carry a lot of stuff around with them all time, either because they like to or because they just don't have time to get back to their home or car to unload some stuff or (as in my best friend's case) your the mother of a five year old.
