Don't waste your money
My first and last time ordering from Newport News.The dress looks cute in the picture, but it's pretty low quality.Not only is the waist HUGE the rest doesn't really hit the right places either.It's worth it to spend more for better quality than this.

still havent received my dress
i have a big party to go to, thats why i ordered this dress 2-3 weeks ago. the calendar dates said it was suppose to come in on May 5th and amazon says that its suppose to come between may 3-7 and i jus called customer service asking them why hasnt my dress come in yet. they claim it was shipped on april 28 and said it might not get to me til may 19... 9 days AFTER my party. all i can say is that im very disappointed. then to make it worse, they then ask me if i want to speed up the shipping with additional fee. all i can say is... did they even MAIL my dress yet like they said they did? i'll never buy from this company again. next time im better off with macys or nordstrom.

Love the dress, but slightly dissapointed
It's a very lovely dress; very comfortable to wear and sexy. As previously mentioned in other reviews, it is a bit loose at the waist (unlike how the accompanying picture would seem to lead you to believe as it appears to cling elegantly to her shape). Purhaps a smaller size would have rectified this, and it fits loosely all over, though not as significantly so. I still enjoy wearing it however, and do not regret this purchase.

No waist line
I wish I had read one of reviews for this item before purchasing. I am size 2 to 6 depending on the marchant sizing, and I order small. I was very disappointed when I put it on. If you want to go out and Salsa the night away, this is the dress for you. Even if you don't have that hip sway thing down pat, the ruffle on this dress will make people think you're a star.

Ugh! Horrible dress!
Ok I've shopped online before without major problems but this dress was horrible.
1) i wear a size 12 like the other reviewer, and i'm also 5'6" but the dress was too short on the short side. Also it was WAYYYYY to tight on my hips and butt.I think that according to the size i bought (1x) I would have needed a 3x.
2) the halter is cut too low in the back, and doesnt cover enough of my c cup cleavage.Dont get me wrong, i'm not a prude. I often wear things too tight, short and clingy for my own good. but this was too much even for me!
3) the fabric was not like in the photo.Its dull and mostly spandex.The ruffles don't fall right at all.
4) if you're plus size, skip this dress. it wont fit you and is too tight in all the wrong places.you also cant wear a normal strapless bra with it, you have to wear one with a plunging back.
5)the only good thing about this was the price. its a good bargain.

I would only recommend this dress for someone without curves.Also buy a size bigger than you originally intended to.If its too big you can always take it in a little, but if its too small you're stuck with it.

I'd say don't waste your money like i did.Buy the rust colored "silk charmeuse dress" from newport news, or the "beaded mesh pleated slip dress" which the size is more accurate and its much more flattering.

not bad, more of a "clubbing" dress
Overall, I'm pleased with the dress. I wear a women's 12 and seemed to be on the border of the 1X and 2X. I bought the 1X as I am going to use this as a New Year's dress and so could get away with a "sexier" look. While a 12 is often considered "big", I enjoy my curves and don't mind the occasional clingy dress. There is some spandex in the dress, and so it does tend to cling and conform to one's shape. I think I would have had this clinginess even with the larger size. I am fairly buxom with a D cup, and the halter top managed to cover everything quite well with none of the "side cleavage" that can sometimes occur with halter style tops. The halter ties in the back with a sheer material like the ruffle, and it makes a pretty, feminine drape down the back. The ruching is at the left hip, but spreads out over the tummy which is nice, although I would have preferred more "centralized" ruching.

The bottom ruffle is pretty, if a bit darker than the main body of the dress, and moves well. I am 5'6" tall, and the short side of the ruffle hits me at the top of the knee with the longer side of the ruffle around mid calf. Since this dress is quite clingy, it was nice to have some added length. For me, tight *and* short would be too much.

The fabric did look more sturdy in the photo, and I can see that this will be a hand wash, no-dryer item. I don't think I would have bought it at full price, but it is a decent deal at the sale price.

I'm a pale redhead, and the darker burgundy is more flattering for me than a more true red. For those pale folks who tend to shy away from reds, this may be a good option if you want something different than the standard little black dress.

This will make a good "clubbing/dancing" dress, but the clinginess, for me at least, will mean that it won't be a daytime option. Still, I feel quite sexy and unique in it, and for me, that is what a party dress should do.

I would buy again from the company at a sale price. Shipping was quite quick considering the distance.

As an addendum:I did wear this dress out a few days after writing the original review. The attention that I received was quite positive and proved to be quite drool-worthy with quite a few men. This dress may work out quite well if one is wanting to look nice for the male crowd, or just to look good for a certain man in your life.

wrinkled easily
This is a very pretty dress, but I had two problems with it. The main one is that it wrinkles easily.
Also this dress is very thin and has two splits.It needs a slip underneath, but you must have a slip with two slits.
I sewed one of the slits up.I also had to take up under the arms.

More suitable as a blouse for some of us, but very sexy!
When I ordered this mini-dress in black and red, I didn't know or notice that it best fits persons whose weight is between 90 and 160 pounds. I wish this dress was available in a plus size, as I currently weigh about 200 pounds. While the mini-dress still fits me fairly comfortably,it is more suitable for me to wear as a blouse, with a bra of course, black pantyhose and a mini-skirt. However I feel it is very sexy and very feminine, whether worn as a very short mini-dress or as a blouse. I would especially recommend this mini-dress to anyone within the above mentioned weight range, as it could be a very sexy dress to wear for special occasions or around the house.
